The Remoaner's Reading Group, Coventry, 29th March 2019
Taking place as a part of Co-Op(t) at Twisted Barrel, Fargo Village, Coventry
The Remoaner’s Reading Group is a performative workshop which will take place in Twisted Barrel for an hour of the evening. The act of shared collective reading helps to breakdown barriers within the gallery space and encourage active participation and conversation around the topics of the texts and exhibition. The reading group will act as a tool kit for fostering knowledge to ‘survive’ Brexit, offering modes of endurance, survival, positivity, togetherness and productive struggle, whilst also critiquing the attitudes to race and colonialism and the institutional/hierarchical power struggles that have forged the current political zeitgeist. Some of the authors who will be studied in the reading group are Sara Ahmed, Bell Hooks, Lauren Berlant and Morgan Quaintance. The Remoaner’s Reading Group will spill out into the exhibition space, creating dialogue between the texts and the artworks on show.
